Is this website free?

Membership is entirely free and it is our intention to keep it so. For the continued success of this website, we need to encourage as many households as possible to join. We can only do this by offering a free service to our members.

How do you ensure my privacy?

For the website to function we need to store your address. However, your full address is never displayed anywhere on this website. The amount of information you want to give us is entirely up to you. You can also choose to either display your address only to your nominated friends, only to members in your postcode district, or to withhold your address from all members. Your personal email address is never revealed on the website—you simply use the website’s own messaging system. See our Privacy Policy for further details.

What is this website all about?

WYN is a social network site based around your own home and community. It aims to open up communication between people living in your own area. With this increase in communication we can act as a match-making service which will be relevant to your every day lives. Examples of matching up include: finding those driving the same way as you; matching those who need odd jobs completing with those who want to earn some money; finding those who are in a similar life situation to you. For example, housebound due to a disability or just had a new baby. This site presents many uses, so please use it to its full potential.

What about identity theft?

The information you provide on your household is up to you, is under your control and can be deleted at any time. We recommend that you use a pseudonym for your household's name and your address is never shown anywhere on the website. Most people are giving their first names, but if this makes you feel uncomfortable, use a nickname instead. All the information we store about our members is held on our secure server, hosted by 1and1.co.uk.

How do we protect the younger members of our family?

You have the option of limiting who can access and communicate with any member of your family. In each of your individuals' profiles there is an option 'Who can see this profile'. Using this option you can choose whether or not you want each of your household's individuals to have their profile displayed to everyone or just households who you have nominated as being your friends.

Do you give my email address to other companies?

No! We will never give your email address to other commercial organisations.

What precautions should I take when meeting someone for the first time?

Please see our page Meeting Other Members and Your Safety for guidance.

Is there a limit to the number of individuals we can include in our household?

Yes—a household can contain between one and ten individuals. It may also have up to ten pets. Each individual may list up to three of their interests.

Can I make a suggestion for improving this website?

There is a link at the bottom of the page for ‘suggestions’. We encourage our members to help us improve our service to them so please feel free to send us your ideas.

How do I become a ‘good neighbour’?

You receive points every time someone nominates you as being a good neighbour. You can encourage other members to give you points by befriending and helping them. The more points you get, the more your good neighbour stars will increase. Please note that you may only nominate a household once.

What can I do about misuse of the website?

This website is moderated to ensure that all our members are protected from the unwanted behaviour of other members. You have the option of blocking another household from contacting you or if you feel the situation is more serious, you can report abuse to us and we will take appropriate action against the offending member.

What is Word of Mouth

This is for those of you who work from home and would like to tell your community what it is that you do – think of it as free advertising. You can update your profile by going to the 'Our Details' tab and choosing 'Word of Mouth'.
