What's the aim of WhosYourNeighbour?

This is a community website covering the whole of the UK. Members tap into local knowledge and information provided by the other members on the site. The more members the greater the knowledge becomes.

The site has three main aims;

• To allow every person in their area to be able to find out what is going on around them and be able to contribute to this important information. This is done through Notices, Events and Discussions.
• To bring people together in their own areas based around activities, odd jobs, car sharing or lifestyles.
• To create a trusted community of members in each area. The Find a Tradesman section, for example, is the place where people can pass on their local experience and knowledge, allowing others to tap into this important resource.

Who's behind the site?

The people behind the site are two friends from West Yorkshire, John Henderson and David White. David is the web designer and John is responsible for support and marketing. The idea came about over a discussion in the pub in 2005 about why we didn't know our neighbours better. The site was designed and built during much of 2006 and during this time evolved from a simple idea into the more complex website that we have today. We officially went live in January 2007.

How do we benefit if the site is free?

Most websites operate like the ITV television channel – it is free because they show you adverts. We hope to create a successful website where people choose to use us. If they do that the advertisers will want to advertise here and we will cover our costs and hopefully make a return on our time and investment. The site is new and so at the moment we both work full and part time and fund the site ourselves.
